Two weekend call outs for Brighton RNLI
A busy weekend for the volunteer crew at Brighton RNLI has led to renewed calls to stay safe around the coast this summer.
The first shout on Saturday 17 June at around 2.45pm was carried out jointly with the seafront office after calls were received about concerns for a person in the water near Brighton Marina.
The crew worked quickly together with the seafront team to carry out initial casualty care on a male who was then passed into the care of the emergency services.
Later on Saturday at 4.35pm three young people were seen floating out beyond the yellow buoys near the Marina on an inflatable. Another rapid launch from the crew brought them safely back to the beach.
Charlie Dannreuther, deputy launch authority at Brighton RNLI, said: ‘Firstly we’d like to thank the other agencies we worked with on our first shout including the seafront team who worked closely with us to ensure the best outcome possible on the day.
‘We would also like to take this opportunity to remind members of the public that if they are concerned for someone in the water, they should ring 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
‘On the second shout we’d like to renew our calls to use inflatables in a safe environment in the pool and not at sea.
‘If you, your family or friends are enjoying our coast this summer please remember to swim at a lifeguarded beach and if you are entering the water make sure someone knows where you are going and when you will be home.’
