Bangor RNLI receives £800 donation from the Rotary Club of North Down
Bangor RNLI was delighted to receive a £800 donation from the President of the Rotary Club of North Down following their successful charity breakfast.
Mike McNeice, President of the club presented RNLI volunteer John Montgomery with the funds which were the proceeds of a collection at their annual charity breakfast in Helen’s Bay Golf Club.
The funds were raised and donated in the memory of their late friend Junior Allen.
In 1976 Junior, as a member of the Round Table was instrumental in initiating and promoting a national campaign to raise over £215,000 to purchase a Newhaven 44’ Waveney lifeboat Louis Marchesi of Round Table and other essential equipment for the RNLI. The lifeboat was named after their founder to commemorate their Golden Jubilee. The lifeboat was allocated to Newhaven RNLI station in East Sussex.
Mike McNeice said: ‘We take great pleasure in presenting Bangor RNLI this modest cheque to help with the running of Bangor RNLI. The volunteers here are a credit to the organisation and an integral part of our community’
Byron Griffiths, Bangor RNLI Lifeboat Operations Manager said: ‘We are extremely grateful for this very generous donation from the Rotary Club of North Down, organised by Mike McNeice and Peter Bullock. It was lovely to meet some of the members and especially Junior Allen’s wife Rosemary. These funds will power our lifesaving work and help our volunteers to continue to save lives at sea.’
