HM Coastguard tasked the crew to launch after receiving a call from the swimmers friend. The volunteer crew launched the inshore lifeboat, Barbara Jane, swiftly to go to assist the casualty.

However, the crew were stood down shortly after launching as the swimmer had managed to get safely to shore.

Open water swimming is becoming an increasingly popular activity along the coastline and the RNLI would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone to take care around the water. In this case, the swimmer had a friend who was able to call for help when they were in difficulty. The RNLI advises everyone to have a means of calling for help when participating in any water activities.

Vinny Vincent, Lifeguard Supervisor for the RNLI said:

‘We would encourage everyone to swim at a lifeguarded beach. RNLI lifeguards are patrolling Three Cliffs beach at the weekends at the moment. This includes the bank holidays and the school half term holiday. We will be back on Three Cliffs Beach full time from the 1st July until the first weekend in September. The RNLI lifeguards on the beach will always be able to give you some advice about the local conditions and how to enjoy water activities safely, so do come along and chat to us.’
