Sennen Cove RNLI Volunteers rescue paddleboarders off Porthcurno.

On Saturday 6 May at 6.51pm HM Coastguard Falmouth requested the assistance of Sennen Cove all-weather lifeboat following reports of two paddleboarders in difficulties near Porthcurno.

The Tamar class lifeboat City of London III launched with a total of six RNLI volunteer crew under the command of second Coxswain Dan Shannon and made best speed to the area.

The Lands End Coastguard search and rescue team were also tasked.

Arriving on scene at 7.10pm, the RNLI volunteers located the paddleboarders just offshore from the Minack Theatre in the water,clinging to their paddleboards. They were shocked and cold after being in the water for some time.

The volunteer lifeboat crew quickly recovered the two casualties, and equipment, and provided casualty care.

The City of London III made best speed back to Sennen Cove where the lifeboat was recovered at 7.35pm and the casualties placed into the hands of a doctor for further assessment

The lifeboat was then made ready for her next service.

Second Coxswain Dan Shannon said ‘ The casualties were cold and very tired. Our volunteer crew did a fabulous job in recovering them and bringing them back to the station quickly and safely’.
