Tighnabruaich RNLI host local school for safety information day

Alongside local colleagues from Dunoon and Kames Rescue Coastguard stations, the RNLI volunteers used games and fun to familiarise Tighnabruaich Primary School and Nursery pupils with how to stay safe near and in the water.

With weather hinting at getting warmer and the increase in popularity of stand up paddleboards (SUPs) and other sea-based activity, the key points on how ‘float to live’ and ‘call 999 or 112’ and ask for the Coastguard were conveyed amongst the fun. In Scotland in 2022 there were 26 lifeboat launches to calls involving SUPs with 24 people aided and 3 lives saved.

Michaela Wilson who is both Principal Teacher at the school and a member of the boat crew at RNLI Tighnabruaich, said: “It’s so important for our young people to learn about water safety. We want to ensure they enjoy the huge benefits of coastal living, while staying safe.We really appreciate the time of all the volunteers and know the young people have been inspired to become future crew!”
