Distressed yacht towed to safety by Alderney RNLI Lifeboat

Alderney's RNLI all weather Lifeboat, Roy Barker I was launched yesterday (26 May) at 6.15pm after a distress call was received by the Coastguard, from a yacht experiencing difficulty 6 miles Northeast of the island.

The yacht which was en route to Guernsey from the UK was experiencing machinery / steering difficulties and required immediate assistance.

Once on scene the Alderney volunteer lifeboat crew established a tow and began to guide the 10m yacht with two people on board back to Braye Harbour, arriving in port at 7.15pm

This is the second shout in under a week with the Alderney RNLI assisting yachts in difficulty.

The RNLI charity saves lives at sea. Its volunteers provide a 24-hour search and rescue service around the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland coasts. The RNLI operates 238 lifeboat stations in the UK and Ireland and more than 240 lifeguard units on beaches around the UK and Channel Islands. The RNLI is independent of Coastguard and government and depends on voluntary donations and legacies to maintain its rescue service. Since the RNLI was founded in 1824, its lifeboat crews and lifeguards have saved over 142,700 lives.
