Stonehaven RNLI volunteer crew receive 10 year service coins

This weekend, the Stonehaven RNLI finally managed to get their volunteer crew and partners together for a well deserved celebratory evening. It also provided the perfect opportunity to present 10-year service commemorative coins to those original crew members still giving their time week in, week out 10 years on.

Stonehaven RNLI volunteer crew are available 24 hours a day, every single day of the year. When that pager goes off wherever they are, be it at their places of work, having their Sunday roast or sound asleep in their beds, they answer the call. They leave their friends and families at a moment’s notice to help those in peril on the sea.

Also fitted in around their regular lives are the training sessions twice a week and time given to public events, fundraising activities and charity challenges.

Andy Martin, Volunteer Lifeboat Operations Manager at Stonehaven RNLI, and one of the original crew members himself, said: 'Ten years ago volunteers from our community answered the call to re-establish a RNLI station here in Stonehaven. With the approach of our 10-year anniversary, we wanted to recognise volunteer crew members who had given their time freely over the last 10 years. Something we will continue with as volunteer crew reach this significant milestone.

'It was fantastic to get so many of the crew together, with their partners, for a sociable and celebratory evening. Without our operational crew and the support of their families Stonehaven RNLI could not function as well as does.'
