Padstow RNLI assist two crew on board a sailing boat with engine failure
The volunteer crew launched on Sunday (26 November) at 2.07pm to reports of a sailing boat with engine failure and two fatigued crew, 20 miles north of Padstow.
Once on scene Padstow RNLI Coxswain Richard Pitman assessed the situation and deemed the safest action was to take the boat under tow. Once a tow line was established the lifeboat headed towards Padstow.
Approximately an hour and a half from Pentire the two crew aboard the sailing boat requested medical attention. Padstow lifeboat towed the yacht into calmer water at Port Quin and two RNLI crew went aboard and assessed the casualties. The two casualties were then transferred to the lifeboat and given medical attention.
With two RNLI crew remaining on the sailing boat, the lifeboat continued to tow the boat to mooring in the Camel Estuary. The sailing boat was left securely moored and the lifeboat took the two casualties back to the lifeboat station by 8.45pm and awaited a land ambulance.
The ambulance crew assessed the two causalities and once they were deemed fit and well they were transported by ambulance into Padstow.
The Padstow RNLI volunteer crew ensured the two casualties had accommodation in Padstow for the night and then returned to their homes at 10.30pm.
