RNLI Fishguard launch inshore lifeboat to aid of kayaker

Crew members were paged at 12:35pm on Tuesday 3 October at the request of HM Coastguard following a report of a kayaker in difficulty in the area of Carreg Tomas near to Fishguard Fort.

The charity’s D class inshore lifeboat Edward Arthur Richardson was launched and proceeded to the last known location of the casualty. Upon arrival it was apparent that a coasteering group who had been conducting training in the area had been able to get a line to the casualty which had been attached to the kayak. The casualty had also been helped ashore by the group and further up away from the water where they were met by crew from Fishguard HM Coastguard and left in their care.

With the casualty safely ashore the inflatable kayak was retrieved by lifeboat crew to prevent any false alarms of an abandoned kayak being called into HM Coastguard.

The lifeboat then returned to station where it was refuelled, washed down and made ready for service and the kayak put into safekeeping for collection by the owner.

Cedwyn Rogers, Volunteer Lifeboat Press Officer said:

'We’d like thank the coasteering group for their quick actions in getting a line to the casualty and assisting them to safety with coastguards.

'Fishguard RNLI would also like to the take the opportunity to remind water users to be mindful of weather condition and take wind/tide direction and strength into consideration when taking to the water.'
