Fishguard RNLI crew were paged at 1.41am on Saturday (7 October 2023) with the request to launch the charity’s D class inshore lifeboat
Edward Arthur Richardson and make way to the area which had been identified as being Fisherman’s Quay near to the ferry terminal.
On arrival it was realised that the person had fallen approximately 3 metres from the quay wall onto the slip below and was situated close to the waterline.
Also responding to the incident were personnel from Fishguard HM Coastguard, Welsh Ambulance Service Trust and Dyfed Powys Police.
With land access to the casualty available, the crew of the lifeboat remained nearby to provide water safety cover for the other emergency services whilst they tended to the casualty close to the water’s edge. With the patient transferred to the ambulance the lifeboat was stood down and returned to station where it was recovered and made ready again for service at 2.53am.
'This was an excellent example of multiagency response and we at RNLI Fishguard are glad we were able to provide assistance. Whilst we may not always be hands on in an incident, providing safety cover to our colleagues working in close proximity to the water is also important, and we are always prepared to step in and assist where necessary.'
