Salcombe RNLI volunteer crew completes a fundraising run-swim-run in the sun

On Sunday 8 October, while most were enjoying the sunshine, Imogen Yeoman (Immy) took off on an impressive challenge in support of Salcombe RNLI where she volunteers as lifeboat crew.

The purpose of Immy’s challenge was not only to fundraise for the RNLI, but also to commemorate her late father. Immy said:

‘This event is taking place the day before my Father’s memorial service so I will be completing it in his memory and he will be in my thoughts throughout. Dad was always so supportive of my challenges, and I know he would have been incredibly supportive of this one too.’

Immy's challenge began with a 2km run from Jim Martin’s lifeboat monument in Kingsbridge to Bowcombe Bridge. She completed this first 2km section of her run in an impressive 9 minutes 20 seconds.

Surrounded by family, friends and crew, Imogen then began a 6.5km swim to South Sands, which finished at Jim's Salcombe lifeboat monument. Immy's two-time Iron Man experience showed when she finished this swim in a staggering 2 hours 15 minutes.

Immy emerged from the water at South Sands, greeted by cheers from her supporters. She concluded her challenge by running a final 2.5km through the streets of Salcombe.

Jason Luff RNLI Community Manager for the Salcombe area said:

'It cost £188M to run the RNLI’s lifesaving service in 2022. The RNLI relies on donations to function, and without fundraisers like Immy we would not be able to continue saving lives at sea.

‘Every penny and pound the RNLI receives really does count and we’re hugely grateful to Immy for not only volunteering her time as lifeboat crew, but also choosing to fundraise for us. All the money she’s raised will go towards saving lives.’
