Inspired by Dad, daughter Lauren joins Mudeford RNLI

Lauren has recently volunteered to be a member of the Shore Crew and has already begun training for this important role.

Lauren explains, ‘I was inspired by my father, Dominic Rogers, who joined Mudeford Lifeboat Station when I was just six years old. Having been around the station growing up, I was desperate to join the RNLI for a long time. I have a huge respect for what the crew do, and I am so excited to be a part of this amazing team and to help save lives at sea.’

The Shore Crew have a wide range of responsibilities including preparation and launching of the station’s Atlantic 85 lifeboat, Mudeford Servant, and recovering and refuelling the lifeboat on its return. Lauren continues, ‘There is a lot to learn but the crew are very supportive, and I am getting to grips with all the procedures, safety regulations and of course, how to tie all the different knots!’

Looking to the future, Lauren is keen to join the boat crew at some stage and go out to assist people in difficulty on the water. However, as Lauren observes, ‘There is no rush. Right now, I just want to concentrate on being the best Shore Crew member I can be and play my part in helping keep people safe on the water.’

Mudeford RNLI Lifeboat Operations Manager, Tim Hewett, said, ‘We are delighted to welcome Lauren to the Mudeford RNLI station and thank her for following in her father’s footsteps and volunteering to be a member of the Shore Crew. Lauren has a vital role to play, and we wish her every success and welcome her to the Mudeford RNLI family.’

The Mudeford Servant lifeboat has been called out 81 times so far this year, more than the whole of 2022 when the station had 65 shouts.
