RNLI pagers sounded at 12.33pm when Silloth RNLI lifeboat was tasked by HM Coastguard to a report of a person in the water north of Southerness. The Atlantic 85 lifeboat Elaine and Don Wilkinson launched at 12.50pm at the station’s secondary launch site at West Beach due to the low tide.

The volunteer crew onboard the lifeboat liaised with HM Coastguard throughout the call out. The swimmer in question was found safe and well on shore, heading back to the roadside.

The lifeboat was recovered back at West Beach, then made the trip back to the station where it was washed down and placed back on service at 2.45pm.

If you require assistance on the coast or see anyone in trouble in the water, dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard. RNLI lifeboats and crew are available 24 hours a day to assist those in need.
