Yarmouth Lifeboat returning to station

Yarmouth RNLI volunteers were awoken at 3:41am to their pagers sounding as assistance was required by Yarmouth’s All Weather Severn class lifeboat - Eric and Susan Hiscock, Wanderer.

Already at the scene were flanking station Calshot RNLI who were initially called out at the earlier time of 2:20am where they launched their Atlantic 85 B-Class RNLI Lifeboat - Max Walls, to assist the yacht.

It was at first thought that the casualty vessel had tangled themselves on a pot marker which caused their anchor to start dragging, but after further assessment of the situation, a pot marker was found to not cause the fault. The obstruction, which was causing the malfunction, was cleared by the RNLI crews and it was decided that Calshot RNLI would then safely tow the casualty vessel further up the Beaulieu River.

Yarmouth Lifeboat then stood down and began their passage back to station in Yarmouth Harbour at 5:30am.

Calshot Lifeboat headed back to their station around 7:30am.

This evening was a great example of a pledge we have made at the RNLI.

We work together with passion, talent, and kindness – whoever we are and wherever we’re from.

We are one crew.

Yarmouth lifeboat ran through the post recovery checks once back at station, and was marked as ready for service at 6am.
