Lizard RNLI launch to assist female swimmer

On Sunday 9 July, The Lizard lifeboat crew were paged at 6.18pm following an SOS call to HM Coastguards received from a smart watch.

The Lizard lifeboat launched on service and proceeded to Housel Bay Beach where the request for help had come from. Upon arrival on scene an immediate search of the area began for a female swimmer in the water in potential difficulty.

The smaller Y-boat was deployed from the lifeboat with two crew members on board, enabling them to carry out a closer shoreline search. Thankfully a short time later it was confirmed that the female and been located safe and well, allowing RNLB Rose and the Mullion and Porthoustock Coastguard Teams to be stood down to return to their respective stations.

An inadvertent false alarm made with good intent on this occasion.
