St. Ives RNLI called out twice in 10 minutes to people in difficulty
Yesterday (Sunday 3 September) was a busy afternoon for St.Ives RNLI lifeboat crews and lifeguards, as the pagers sounded twice within ten minutes.
The first shout was at 5.28pm when the inshore lifeboat (ILB) was tasked to assist two kayakers in difficulty near Godrevy. With Jake Martin as Helm, they quickly made their way to the scene and while on their way they put out a radio request for any boats nearby to attend the scene. A local boat Four Sisters, reached the area and stood alongside the kayakers. When the ILB reached the scene they discovered that one of kayakers was in the water and was having difficulty getting back into their craft.
At 5.38pm the pagers sounded for the second time, three surfers were caught in a rip current in the same area. The all-weather lifeboat (ALB) was launched to assist. Before the ALB reached the scene they received news that the surfers had been helped to shore by some other surfers. The ALB then proceeded to help the ILB with the ongoing situation with the kayakers.
With the assistance of the RNLI lifeguards on jet skies, the kayakers were taken to shore along with their kayaks. Once both boats were stood down they made their back to St Ives Harbour where the ALB was put on the mooring in the bay. The ILB was brought back to the boathouse where it was washed down and made ready for service.
