Invergordon Lifeboat Open Day returns raising £2700 for the charity

Throughout the day anyone wanting to learn about the RNLI, had the opportunity to sign onto the informative Lifeboat Tours around our Launch a Memory Shannon Class ‘Agnes AP Barr’, delivered by our dedicated volunteer Visits Team and volunteer crew, which proved very popular. These are held in depth every Sunday until the end of October and are available to book on-line via the link on the stations social media channels.

SAR Partner Organisations such as Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, Scottish Ambulance Service and HM Coastguard were also present providing safety information and advice on a variety of topics to visitors and ensuring the children and adults alike were kept on their toes with the siren tests.

Ann Noble School of Highland Dancers entertained the crowd with a set of six amazing dances. Ted Miller was showcasing his outstanding collection of model Lifeboats, the fundraising crew done and marvellous job of ensuring everyone was fed at watered by the return of the RNLI BBQ, with teas, coffee and a range of cake and home baking on offer also.

Also entertaining the crowd was Face painting, RNLI Souvenirs,Tombola and the Raffle with a special edition bottle of 60^th Anniversary Invergordon Distillery Whisky as top prize donated by Invergordon Distillery’s Shane Healy

A firm favourite for all and new to the scene was the Pig Racing, where a crew of six fluffy pigs take the starting line, complete with jockeys race to the finish line, with the winner taking home the treats.

This year saw the station’s Shannon Class lifeboat take to the stage for her first open day demonstration since arriving on station in 2020, showing her manoeuvrability, rescue techniques and speed to the crowd with her crew of six and 9500 additional crew-mates on her RNLI 13-37 port and starboard decals while simulating a person in the water exercise.

The money raised from the day and through donations can contribute to the lifeboat services in many ways; from gaining equipment and kit to training crew members. We would like to thank everyone who supported our day and look forward to seeing you all next year for the stations 50^th Anniversary and the RNLI’s 200^th Anniversary.”
