Stonehaven RNLI volunteer crew take on The Beast
Seven of our volunteer crew will be taking on the challenge of The Beast Race on Saturday 23 September, and all to raise funds for the New Station build.
The RNLI is the charity that saves lives at sea, a beacon of hope and safety. Stonehaven RNLI plays a vital role in this search and rescue volunteer service, on Scotland’s North East coast.
Since being re-established back in 2013, Stonehaven RNLI, its inshore lifeboat and volunteer crew have been housed in temporary accommodation at Stonehaven Harbour. With our crew shed reaching the end of its life, we now have the opportunity of a permanent home for both our boat the 'Jamie Hunter' and our volunteer crew. A fundraising appeal for the new station build was launched in June of this year.
The seven volunteer crew – Mike Black, Mike Reading, Dave Carlton, Pete MacKenzie, Richard Emmerson, Adam Howie and Jamie Longfield, thought taking on The Beast Race would be a fun way to add to this fundraising appeal. As one of the crew put it:
‘Tis no ordinary race – ‘tis a roar of determination heard across the Highlands. Join us in raisin’ doubloons for a new permanent station – a fortress or safety to stand for generation.’
‘We need yer help to be the wind in our sails! Yer support be the North Star guidin’ us through stormy seas…. Yer kindness be the compass pointin’ us to safer shores.’
