Exmouth RNLI launch to broken down boat
Exmouth RNLI volunteers were tasked to attend a broken down boat off Lyme Bay this evening.
At 4.50pm today Saturday 16th September 2023, following a pan-pan call, the crew of Exmouth RNLI All Weather Shannon Class lifeboat 13-03 R & J Welburn were tasked by H.M. Coastguard to a report of a broken down motorboat with two persons on board 20 miles due south of Lyme Regis. The boat was not equipped with a radio.
The lifeboat launched at 5.03pm and made their way at best speed to the last known location of the vessel, arriving with it at 5.54pm where they assessed the situation. It was established that the 28ft motor cruiser was unable to make progress and so the lifeboat took it under tow to Exmouth.
The lifeboat and the casualty vessel arrived safely at Exmouth at 9.40pm where they were met by members of the Exmouth Coastguard Rescue Team and the boat safely moored. No one was injured or required medical attention as a result of this emergency.
The lifeboat was crewed by Coxswain, Roy Stott, with crew Chris Sims, Robert Thompson, Guy Munnings, Charles Swales and Geoff Mills.
