Portree Lifeboat assist a motorboat in Loch Snizort
The Portree Lifeboat volunteer crew were paged at 8.08 am on Saturday 16 September 2023 to the report of a casualty vessel with a fouled propeller.
A 10.8 m private owned motorboat from Cuidrach on the Isle of Skye was making its way out on a private fishing trip. As the vessel left its mooring, the propulsion system picked up an obstruction round the propeller. The crew could not remedy the situation so they contacted the emergency services whereupon Portree lifeboat was requested to launch.
The Trent class lifeboat Stanley Watson Barker arrived at Cuidrach, Loch Snizort, about 9.50am. After the lifeboat volunteer crew ascertained all on board were well, they looked at the obstruction. Using a boat hook, they removed the obstruction which allowed the vessel to continue on their sea angling trip. The lifeboat returned to Portree.
The lifeboat was returned to service about 12.15 pm and the crew were stood down from this incident.
