Stromness RNLI volunteer captures 'Northern Lifeboat'

The Stromness RNLI lifeboat was captured in a spectacular light show by the station's newest crew member this week.

Karen Boswarva, the newest volunteer to join the crew at Stromness RNLI Lifeboat Station, was up Brinkie's Brae, the hill behind the town, one night recently, when she noticed the display of Northern lights was in just the right position for her to capture it showing behind the lifeboat.

She ran down to the pier and mounted her phone on a tripod, set the exposure to five minutes on night mode and pressed the shutter button. Karen had to cup hands above the phone to cut out glare from the street lights. The picture has caused quite a stir among Stromness RNLI Lifeboat followers, with over 700 likes on Facebook to date.
