Glenda Kenyon was honoured with a framed Volunteer Certificate as a thank you for her continued support of Barry Dock RNLI. Glenda was presented with her certificate by crew members, including Barry Dock’s Coxswain Andy Gavan and Chairman Stuart Macmillan.

Her house has become a local landmark in Barry as the home of the character Gwen in Gavin and Stacey. She has been collecting donations as she welcomed fans of the show who visited the property on local bus tours. She has now raised £7,800 for Barry Dock RNLI and continues to encourage visitors to support our volunteer crews.

Jason Ude also had a long standing link with the RNLI. His friend Richy Tutton was an RNLI mechanic, but sadly passed away last year. Jason decided to undertake a scooter ride from London to Barry to raise funds for the RNLI in memory of his friend Richy.

Jason successfully completed the scooter ride and raised over £500 which he presented to Barry Dock crew members last week. This money raised will help to ensure the lifesaving work of people like Richy can continue.

It’s been a busy 2024 so far for Barry Dock RNLI, with the charities 200th anniversary and the arrival of the station's new Shannon class lifeboat. The volunteer crew have been undergoing extensive training to ensure the new lifeboat will soon be fully operational, and the work of generous fundraisers like Glenda and Jason ensure that our crew are able to keep on saving lives at sea.
