Boy visits Tynemouth RNLI station after impressing crew with eggcellent creation
An Easter egg design competition was an opportunity for 6 year-old Arris Dent to celebrate the RNLI’s 200th anniversary, which resulted an invitation to board Tynemouth RNLI's Severn class lifeboat.
The six year-old is a keen sea swimmer and normally spends his spare time at Newbiggin Bay. Yet, when Arris received the brief from teachers for the egg competition he got to work right away creating his design called Eggcellent Rescue at home in Ashington.
Arris carried it into school before the holidays, he told his teachers and pals: ‘The crew member at the back is me when I’m a big boy because he’s got my hair’.
He took close attention to detail, drawing the faces onto hens’ eggs, moulding the rescuee with his surfboard from clay, and even painted Tynemouth’s decal on the side of the Severn Class All Weather Lifeboat (ALB).
Arris was taken by surprise when Tynemouth RNLI Crew invited him and his family to the station at North Shields Fish Quay. He visited in the Easter holidays, where he had a tour around the lifeboat and station.
Arris Dent said: ‘I can’t believe I get to see the real life version of my creation’. His favourite part of the visit was the Engine room in the Severn class.
James Waters, Inshore Lifeboat Helm and Lifeboat Press Officer at Tynemouth Lifeboat Station said: ‘What an amazing depiction of our all weather lifeboat! A truly eggcellent model showing the type of rescues our volunteer eggs undertake. Our crew loved it and were amazed by the level of detail. Congratulations Arris on your fantastic design.’
Tynemouth’s volunteer crew were eggstatic to see the model. The creation displays the importance that everybody should respect the water if they plan to visit the seaside over the Easter holidays.
