Volunteer lifeboat crew from Borth RNLI were returning from a training exercise at 11.30am on Easter Sunday morning (31 March), when a member of the public alerted them that two paddleboarders were getting blown out to sea.

The crew immediately re-launched the inshore lifeboat and made their way towards the paddleboarders. Unharmed but struggling to return to shore due to the strong offshore winds, with gusts of up to 50mph, the crew escorted them back to the safety of the shore.

Dave Reynolds Borth RNLI Lifeboat Operations Manager said:

‘Even on Easter Sunday on a bank holiday weekend, when people are spending time with their family and friends, our volunteer lifeboat crew are ready to respond to the call for help.

‘Despite the sea state being calm, offshore winds can be sheltered from the shore-line but become very strong once out away from the shelter of beach buildings and cliffs. We are delighted we could escort these two paddleboarders back safely and we’re grateful to the member of the public who spotted them in difficulty and raised the alarm.

‘If you see anyone in difficulty at the coast, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.’
