Becoming a volunteer is a great chance to play a crucial part in helping to save lives. If you are enthusiastic then you could be an important part of the crew at Fishguard RNLI, contributing towards the future of the charity and inspiring the next generation of crew.

In particular, the charity’s station at Fishguard is looking for new volunteers to take up roles including:

Lifeboat crew

For either or both of our all-weather or inshore lifeboat. You will be at the heart of the action responding to the pager when needed, heading out to sea whatever the hour, whatever the weather.

Launch Authority

You will be the point of contact for HM Coastguard at the station. Authorising and overseeing all aspects of a launch from shore. From when an emergency call comes in, to the point the lifeboat has returned, refuelled and ready again for service.

Volunteer Fundraiser

Working within the crew as part of our fundraising team you will be helping to raise funds in the community by participating in regular fundraising events from bingo to our annual station open day. Every pound raised supports the sea-going crew in continuing to save lives at sea.

Volunteer retail coordinator

You will coordinate all pop-up shop and retail event activity and actively seek new opportunities as part of the fundraising community. You will also be responsible for ordering stock, identifying best sellers and conducting stock take.

Volunteer Fundraiser Libby Talbot, said: ‘Volunteering with the RNLI has given me a sense of connection to others in my local community, where you can meet new people and be a part of the RNLI's One Crew

'Volunteering with the RNLI as a fundraiser is fun, rewarding and helps you gain confidence and learn new skills. It feels good giving something back and volunteering can improve your mental and physical wellbeing.'

Volunteer Lifeboat crew member Jessica Rogers, added: ‘For me the best thing about being part of a crew is all the things I have learned that I would not have otherwise had the opportunity to learn in my life - as I have no previous maritime experience. I’ve even started to learn a degree of navigation and how to drive a boat, I never thought I’d actually be driving!

‘If you are looking to challenge yourself and find out what you are capable of, then joining the crew is a great way to do that and realise your potential.'

Volunteering with us gives people the opportunity to make a real difference in their local community, to save lives and become part of the larger RNLI family. We can’t keep people safe without the support of our wonderful volunteers, who truly make a difference every day no matter which role they are fulfilling.

The RNLI provides first class training and equipment, guidance and support to all volunteers, from volunteer lifeboat crew to shop volunteers and event marshals. If you are interested in becoming part of our crew at Fishguard RNLI we are holding a special event where you can come to the station for some light refreshments and an informal chat with current members of our crew.

You will have the opportunity to look around the station and our lifeboats and also ask any questions you may have about volunteering.
