The all-weather lifeboat made best speed to the casualty’s location 8.5 miles southwest of Tobermory where he was quickly brought aboard and administered casualty care by the crew. Thirty minutes after the lifeboat arriving on scene, the casualty was transferred from the lifeboat to the Inverness Coastguard helicopter, Rescue 151.

The diver was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, the nearest available hyperbaric chamber for much of the West Coast of Scotland, for further assessment and treatment. Elizabeth Fairlie Ramsey returned to her berth where she was refuelled and made ready for service by 4.30pm.

Coxswain David McHaffie said: ‘We would like to thank the crew of Rescue 151 for a smooth and efficient casualty transfer. We wish the diver a speedy recovery and understand he is now doing well.’
