Welly Walkers on Deal Sea Front

Bringing back the walk was the idea of crew member Nic Goodban as a community event.

Setting off from the lifeboat station at 11.00am, the walkers, many in decorated wellies, undertook a leisurely stroll along the seafront to the top of Farrier Street in Deal and back, a distance of around two miles. At Farrier Street, each participant picked up a stone from the beach and signed it, placing it on a community yellow wellie back at the station, and signed a framed photo of the event which will go on display in the boat hall. On our next afloat exercise, the stones will be ceremonially returned to the sea from one of our lifeboats.

The prize winners for the best decorated boots went to Willow Emptage and Elaine Goodban.

Thanks are due to Nic and her small team for all their hard work in organising the event. Speaking after the walk, she said: ‘I would like to personally thank our fundraisers and shop volunteers for feeding and watering participants on their return, and the Mill Hill Co-Op for providing us with the teas and coffees. Their efforts greatly contributed to the success of the day, proving that we are truly One Team.’
