Fraserburgh RNLI aids fishing vessel taking on water
Lifeboats News Release
Fraserburgh RNLI lifeboat was tasked by HM Coastguard to attend to a fishing vessel suffering with engine issues and taking on water approximately two mile from Fraserburgh Harbour.
Fraserburgh RNLI lifeboat was tasked by HM Coastguard to assist a fishing vessel with engine issues and taking on water two miles from Fraserburgh Harbour on Tuesday 16 April.
The all-weather lifeboat the Willie & May Gall was launched from Fraserburgh RNLI Lifeboat station at 10am and was on scene a few minutes later.
The vessel had suffered engine issues approximately 85 miles from Fraserburgh and was heading for the harbour. When approximately 2 miles from the harbour the situation escalated and the vessel started taking on water.
When the lifeboat arrived on scene the Coxswain spoke with the crew and they both agreed that the best course of action was for the casualty vessel to head for the harbour under its on propulsion and the lifeboat would escort the vessel back and provide any assistance if required.
Thankfully the vessel and the crew made it's way into the harbour and was safely tied up until repairs can be carried out.
Fraserburgh RNLI Coxswain, Vic Sutherland, praised his volunteer crew for their speedy response and was glad the vessel made it back into the safety of the harbour for repairs to be carried out.
The Willie & May Gall returned to Fraserburgh RNLI Lifeboat Station and was washed down, refuelled and ready for it's next service at 11:20am
