Beaumaris Lifeboat crew go from formal evening wear to waterproofs. in 24 hours.
Having celebrated the RNLI 200th Anniversary with a formal dinner and entertainment from the Beaumaris Band and The Suspects on the evening of Saturday 20 April. The volunteer crew members came back to reality on Sunday 21 April 2024 when at 9.22 pm they received a Crew Assemble page.
This page from the U.K. Coastguard Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre as Holyhead relating to fishing boat being towed by another fishing vessel into the Menai Strait.
The 14-metre fishing vessel was under tow by a similar craft when due to atmospheric conditions the VHF signal between them and the Coastguard became unreliable.
Once on scene it became apparent that the crew of the fishing vessels had the situation well in hand and no physical assistance was required from the lifeboat. To maintain communication with the coastguard the lifeboat accompanied the vessels to a berth at Port Penrhyn.,
Once this had been completed the lifeboat was released by the coastguard to return to her station.at Beaumaris returning at 10.50 pm to be refuelled and cleaned. Once this had been completed the crew left the station.
A RNLI spokesman said: ‘The boat owner did the correct thing in alerting the Coastguard to their predicament. This meant our volunteer lifeboat crew were able to reach the casualty quickly, assess the situation and be on hand should further assistance be required.’
