Fowey lifeboat launches to female in water
On 29 April Fowey RNLI received a launch request from Falmouth Coastguard at 1.26pm. It had been reported that a female casualty was in the water just west of Charlestown Harbour.
Due to Force 7 southerly winds gusting at gale force the decision was taken to launch the all-weather lifeboat, which departed at 1.37pm. On arrival at the scene at 1.45pm, the casualty had left the water and climbed several metres up the cliff face.
The crew prepared the small XP boat that is carried onboard the all-weather boat and stood by to launch to assist if required.
Fire service and coastguard teams were on land and placed a ladder up alongside the casualty. The coastguard roped down alongside, and secured the casualty with a harness and assisted her down the ladder to safety.
The lifeboat was stood down at 2.57pm and returned to Fowey.
This was the first launch for volunteer Chris Evans, as a newly qualified Launch Authority and the first shout as a fully qualified mechanic for Pete Parry onboard the all-weather lifeboat.
