Fraserburgh RNLI lifeboat was tasked by HM Coastguard following a report of a person in the water behind the South Breakwater at Fraserburgh Harbour.

The all-weather lifeboat, Willie & May Gall, was launched from Fraserburgh RNLI Lifeboat Station at 3:55pm and was on scene a few minutes later. On arrival at the scene the volunteer RNLI crew members could see that the casualty had initially been in the water but had made it up to the rock armour behind the Fraserburgh Caravan Park.

The casualty had slipped and fallen down the rock armour into water. When his wife had noticed he was missing. she then managed to drag him out on to the rock armour and alert the emergency services.

Fraserburgh ALB Crew launched the daughter boat XP9 with 2 crew and a basket stretcher and made way to the rock armour. On arrival the crew was met by local HM Coastguard rescue teams from Fraserburgh and Peterhead, Scottish Ambulance Service, Scottish Fire & Rescue crews and Police Scotland.

Due to the casualty's condition it was decided to have the casualty air lifted to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. Rescue One Helicopter soon arrived and air lifted the casualty and took him to Aberdeen.

Fraserburgh RNLI Coxswain, Victor Sutherland, praised his crew for their speedy response and also of all the Emergency Services who was on scene and assisted with the incident. He also stated that on behalf of all the crew he wished the casualty a speed recovery.

The Willie & May Gall returned to Fraserburgh RNLI Lifeboat Station and was refuelled and ready for its next service at 7:10pm

If you see somebody in difficulty on or near the water call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
