Tobermory RNLI rescues cliff faller during the Mull Music Festival
Tobermory RNLI’s volunteer crew went to the aid of a visitor who had fallen from a cliff in Tobermory Bay in the early hours of Saturday 27 April 2024.
The man had fallen from the popular coastal path to Aros Park close to the Sput Dubh waterfall and was very close to the waterline. Tobermory RNLI’s pagers alerted the volunteer crew shortly before 07:00 who quickly launched the Severn class lifeboat and were at the scene within three minutes. The crew then deployed the lifeboat’s daughter craft, the Y boat, to recover the man who was in a precarious position above deep water. Once he was aboard the lifeboat, casualty care trained crew assessed the man and then returned him to the lifeboat berth. The visitor was taken to hospital by local police from where he was discharged a few hours later.
Tobermory RNLI Station Coxswain, David McHaffie said: ‘We are very pleased that there was a good outcome to this incident as the man was in a very exposed position below a steep cliff and above deep water. If you see anyone in difficulty on or close to the water, please call 999 and ask for the Coastguard’.
