RNLI Moelfre Tasked to Assist Casualty with Serious Leg Injury

Lifeboats News Release

At 5:10 pm 05/02/2024, the all-weather lifeboat ‘Kiwi’ launched after being tasked by H.M. Coastguard to report that a casualty had sustained a serious leg injury at Dulas estuary.

Dawn Hughes

The lifeboat quickly arrived on scene but due to the state of the tide and shallow water in the estuary, the onboard Y Class inflatable boat was launched with three RNLI crew members onboard.

The RNLI crew was directed to the casualty by the Moelfre and Cemaes Coastguard mobile teams, who, along with a local Doctor, were already on scene, ensuring that the casualty was kept warm and as comfortable as possible under the circumstances.

Once on scene the lifeboat crew put their casualty care training to effective use by administering pain relief by means of Entonox to the casualty, who was in severe pain after sustaining a compound fracture to the lower leg.
As soon as the rapid response paramedic team arrived, the casualty was then transferred into the care of the Welsh Ambulance Service.

The casualty was then transferred by ambulance to Bangor Hospital for further specialised treatment.

All of us involved in today's shout wish the casualty a speedy recovery.

This was our first shout of 2024, and it was also the first shout for Vince after being appointed as our full-time station coxswain.
