The 30 year old engineering manager and former English Martyrs pupil has been a volunteer for the RNLI for the past five years serving as a crewmember on both the all weather and inshore lifeboats.
Colm attended the RNLI College at Poole as part of a five day intensive helm training course and was also assessed over a period of time at the Ferry Road lifeboat station and finally passed his final assessment to join the other six volunteer helms.

Colm whose dad Andy is the Lifeboat Medical Advisor at the lifeboat station said 'I'm very proud to become one of the helms at the station. The training has been quite intense with a lot to learn. My time spent at the RNLI college was amazing. The high standard of training and facilities for volunteers at the college certainly makes it all worthwhile and I'm looking forward to the challenges that the role brings.'

Hartlepool RNLI lifeboat operations manager Chris Hornsey said 'Colm has worked hard to become a helm and we all hope he enjoys this important role and playing his part in saving lives at sea along with the other volunteers.'
