The male casualty had become stranded on the rocky face, while looking for a missing dog and was unable to climb to safety. With the Coastguard teams preparing to abseil a member of the team down to the casualty, Porthdinllaen lifeboat crew were initially tasked with illuminating the area for the Cliff rescue team.

Shortly it became apparent that further assistance would be needed by the lifeboat crew to retrieve the casualty and Coastguard member from the isolated cove and two members of lifeboat team, were deployed in the lifeboat on board Y class tender. After escorting the casualty down from the dangerous cliff face, the casualty and Coastguard member were taken aboard the lifeboat and taken into Trefor Harbour and handed over to the Coastguard.

Once satisfied that everybody was accounted for, the lifeboat was relieved of its duties and returned to her station where she was refuelled and ready for service by 8.30pm.

Second Coxswain Robert Jones added:

‘Thanks to our colleagues from Abersoch, Llandwrog and Criccieth Coastguard teams in the team effort to recover the casualty from what was a perilous position on the rock face. The casualty made the right call by staying where he was when he found himself in danger and called 999 for help’
