Union Hall RNLI come to aid of paddleboarder in difficulty at The Warren Beach

Yesterday afternoon (Thursday 15 February) Union Hall RNLI were requested by Valentia Coast Guard at 2.44 pm, to a report of a swimmer in difficulty at The Warren Beach, Rosscarbery, east of Galley Head, in West Cork.

The lifeboat left the station at 2.53 pm, and headed for the Warren strand. The lifeboat Christine and Raymond Fielding, helmed by Michael Limrick with crew Charlie Deasy and Cathal Deasy onboard, were assisted ashore by Peter Deasy, Niamh Collins and Anthony Walsh.

The conditions at sea were favourable with a moderate swell and wind in a south westerly direction. Arriving on scene, Valentia Coast Guard notified the volunteer lifeboat crew that the search was for a paddle boarder. The Irish Coast Guard helicopter crew from Rescue 115 at Shannon were already on scene carrying out a search pattern, and being assisted by Castlefreke Coast Guard ground unit, and the crew of a fishing trawler that was also on scene. The crew of Rescue 115 located the casualty, and notified the lifeboat crew, who picked up the casualty and went to the Warren strand, where a HSE ambulance was awaiting with a family member.

Following the call out, Michael Limrick , Helm at Union Hall RNLI said: 'The alarm was raised early, with a good outcome, if you see anyone in difficulty on or near the water, dial 999/112 and ask for the Coast Guard.’
