Chips ahoy! Largs RNLI volunteers rush to Fish Supper night following Shout
Largs RNLI hosted a Fish Supper and Bingo fundraising event at Largs Sailing Club on Saturday 17 February 2024 which seen volunteers arrive straight from a callout.
As the Largs RNLI volunteers were getting ready for an evening of fundraising fun their pagers sounded following several 999 calls being made to HM Coastguard regarding reports of a capsized sailing dinghy near to Largs Yacht Haven.
The volunteer crew launched their Atlantic 85 lifeboat R. A. Wilson and made best speed to the location of the capsized dinghy.
On arrival it was quickly established the casualty was safe and well having made their own way to the shore. The volunteer crew spoke with the local Coastguard Rescue Officers on scene and the decision was taken that no additional casualty care was required.
Largs lifeboat was stood down and returned to the lifeboat station where it was cleaned, refuelled and made ready for service, allowing the volunteer crew to get to the fundraising evening on time.
2024 marks the 200th anniversary of the RNLI nationally and 60 years of the RNLI in Largs. To mark these monumental anniversaries Largs RNLI are hosting a series of events throughout the year.

A fantastic night was had by everyone and thank you to all those who supported this sell-out event and who donated so generously.
John Griffiths, Lifeboat Operations Manager at Largs RNLI said; ‘I would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who came along to support us on the night, including ‘The Fish Works’ in Largs who prepared and delivered the fish suppers for this event with a generous discount.
‘The money raised at these events allows our volunteers to continue saving lives at sea.
‘If you get into difficulty at sea or along the coast, or spot someone else in trouble, always dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.’
