The volunteer crew launched their B-Class ILB (Inshore Lifeboat ) 'Jean McIvor’ into early morning, overcast and drizzly conditions with a slight sea swell and headed to the reported location. The Coastguard search and rescue helicopter from Lydd was also scrambled to help with the search

Our crew approached the position where the casualty had been seen and commenced a shoreline search. At this point the individual was found to have left the water and, although in some distress, out of danger. The Coastguard was approaching the casualty on land when our lifeboat was stood down. Our crew then proceeded back to the lifeboat station where the lifeboat was cleaned, refuelled and back ready for service by 830am.

If you find yourself in an emergency situation or spot someone else in trouble, you should call 999 or 112 and ask for the coastguard. If you are inland and see someone in difficulty on the water, be it on a river or a lake, you should ask for Fire and Rescue when you call for help.
