Fishguard RNLI's D class inshore lifeboat Edward Arthur Richardson was launched by volunteer crew at 11.41am at the request of HM Coastguard.

The tasking was to assist in the safe recovery of a dog which had fallen from an edge in the area of Dinas Head.

Once on scene the lifeboat helm assessed the situation and decided to put a member of crew ashore to retrieve the casualty to the safety of the lifeboat.

Following this, the lifeboat made way to Cwm-Yr-Eglwys where it was met by members of Fishguard Coastguard Rescue Team who took over the care of the dog and awaited the owners arrival for further assessment of injuries.

With the dog safely ashore the lifeboat returned to station where it was refuelled and made ready again for service.

Cedwyn Rogers, Fishguard RNLI Lifeboat Press Officer, said:

‘It was a busy Saturday for our crew, but highlights no matter the time of day our volunteers are willing to answer the call for help. We are pleased that we were able to assist in the safe recovery of a beloved family pet in order that they be reunited with their owner.

'We would also like to take the opportunity to remind those walking dogs on the coast path to ensure they are kept on a lead and away from cliff edges which can easily be hidden by plant growth. The owners in this situation took the right course of action and we would encourage anyone experiencing this situation not to attempt rescue themselves, and instead call 999 or 112 and ask for Coastguard.’

This was the second launch within 9 hours for the volunteer crew at Fishguard RNLI following an earlier launch of the inshore lifeboat at 2.49am to assist with a police incident. The lifeboat stood by whilst it was safely resolved by shoreside partner agencies.
