On a cold New Years Day the inshore lifeboat Claire and David Delves was providing support at an organised event for the New Years Day Swim off Ramsgate main sands.

After the swim was completed and everyone was safely ashore, the inshore lifeboat moved to Broadstairs as part of engine trials and an exercise. Whilst off Broadstairs Viking Bay they were called onto the beach where a young child was showing signs of hypothermia having previously been in the water.
Two of the volunteer Crew from the lifeboat went ashore and carried out casualty care and assessed the condition of the child. They remained with the casualty until a mobile Coastguard unit arrived on scene.
Ramsgate volunteer Press Officer Karen Cox said,' Once the HM Coastguard unit arrived the casualty was placed in the lifeboat stretcher and carried to the road to await an ambulance. Once that had arrived they handed over the casualty to the ambulance crew and then returned to station.'
