Oban RNLI called out to assist with multi agency rescue on Lismore
Oban RNLI Lifeboat launched for the first time in 2024 (Wednesday 3 January) to assist with a medivac from the island of Lismore.
The volunteer crew departed Oban at 4:05pm in their All-Weather lifeboat at the request of HM Coastguard to go to Lismore to assist with the recovery of a casualty, with a suspected broken leg, approximately one mile inland from the pier at Lismore.
Due to the nature of the casualty’s injuries and the distance from the pier the charities lifeboat Mora Edith MacDonald departed her berth in Oban with her usual compliment of seven volunteer crew members along with two paramedics from the Scottish Ambulance Service and five members of the Oban Coastguard Rescue Team on board.
On arrival at the pier at the north end of Lismore, it was discovered that the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service on Lismore had transferred the casualty from the site of the accident to the landing site beside the Lifeboat.
The casualty was treated on the pier by the paramedics before being brought aboard the Trent class lifeboat for transfer to Oban lifeboat station and then to Oban hospital.
Ally Cerexhe, coxswain would like to extend his thanks to all involved in the service and wishes the casualty a speedy recovery.
