The weather remained dry and cold providing perfect conditions for visitors to enjoy a tasty bowl of homemade soup along with sandwiches, tea and coffee. The fundraising committee worked hard to ensure that everyone was well fed and looked after.

Through entry fees and generous donations on the door over £1000 was raised for the RNLI. As the charity that saves lives at sea the RNLI relies entirely on public donations to fund it’s lifeboats and lifeboat stations around the UK and Ireland. 2024 marks the 200th anniversary of the creation of the RNLI and the charity hopes to inspire the next generation of lifesavers and supporters whilst taking time celebrate the history and present of the organisation.

Cheryl McLellan, Kippford RNLI fundraising chair said: ‘I’m delighted that so many people came along to our first event in 2024. Thank you to all the volunteers on the day who helped make this such a success.’

The cost of a thermal suit and drysuit for an RNLI crew member is £1020, it costs around £1500 per year to train lifeboat crew. Events like this are vital to allow the volunteer crew to continue to train and launch at a moments notice when needed.

Gareth Jones, Kippford RNLI Lifeboat Operations Manager said: ‘Kippford is one of the smaller lifeboat stations in the RNLI but our volunteer crew train hard all year round and are on call 24/7 to assist anyone in difficulty. We rely on public donations to operate and we’re grateful to the fundraisers and supporters who make this happen.’
