Tramore RNLI rescues person in difficulty on inflatable dinghy
Tramore RNLI has come to the aid of a person in difficulty on a inflatable dingy off Tramore Beach.
The volunteer crew were requested to launch their inshore lifeboat on Sunday (2 June) to reports of a person in difficulty in a small inflatable dinghy near the Ladies slip.
A member of the public called 999, to raise the alarm and the crew were paged at 3.41pm and the lifeboat was launched with Helm Dave O’Hanolan and crew member Ronan McConnell and Conor McCarthy onboard five minutes later.
The crew located the casualty just two minutes later, after the inflatable had drifted almost 300 metres from the reported location. The casualty was taken onboard the lifeboat and returned to the pier, where they had set off from over two hours earlier.
The casualty was further assessed at the lifeboat station and was found to be tired, but uninjured.
Speaking following the call out, Tramore RNLI Helm Dave O’Hanolan said: ‘Unfortunately the weather conditions changed, and the wind had turned and caught the casualty out but we were delighted to help and delighted to bring the person safely to shore.
‘We remind anyone planning a trip or activity at sea to always check the weather forecast and tide times before venturing out. Go prepared by wearing a lifejacket or suitable flotation device for your activity. Carry a means of communication and should you get into difficulty, call 999 or 112 and ask for the Coast Guard.’
