Staithes and Runswick RNLI volunteer lifeboat crew pose for a photograph before launching for the last time during the charity's second century.
The crew of four posed for photographs before the boat was launched. The training exercise, mooring and berthing, took place within Staithes harbour and allowed visitors to see the Atlantic 85 lifeboat going alongside the pier and boats in the harbour; practising skills needed to save lives at sea. After the exercise was complete a lunch of pie and peas was enjoyed by crew, past and present, family, and visitors to the village alike.

Throughout the day the anniversary of the RNLI was highlighted to visitors passing the station and visiting the shop which, after the exercise had concluded, was staffed by a member of the volunteer crew – highlighting that volunteers are the lifeblood of the RNLI and have been for 200 years.

If you would like to volunteer for Staithes and Runswick RNLI as the third century of the charity is beginning then please email [email protected] there are a number of roles to consider including helping support the charity’s volunteer crews by becoming a shop volunteer.
