Volunteers awarded for their years of service with Kirkwall RNLI
On Friday 8 March Kirkwall RNLI gathered to celebrate Mike Cooper and Ernest Moodie, who have between them given 36 years of service to the charity.
Mike Cooper was presented with a retirement gift from the volunteer crew for his service. For the past 16 years Mike has participated in various areas of our community, as a Water Safety Officer, then moving onto the role of Deputy Launch Authority and then took on the responsibility of Lifeboat operations Manager.
Mike’s role of Lifeboat Operations Manager involved the day to day running of the station, management, team building and helping crew members with their personal performance.
Mike loves sailing and with this he brought a wealth of sea faring knowledge that helped support the volunteer crew throughout his time.
Ernest Moodie was also awarded a certificate of service during the evening. Ernest was presented with a certificate of service for his 20 years of dedication to the RNLI as Deputy Launch Authority.
Andrew Gibson, Mechanic for Kirkwall RNLI said:
‘Ernest has a very a calm influence on everyone within our team, using his experience and local knowledge having worked around local waters for many years.
Ernest was always looking out for everyone during his DLA role over his 20 years of service, always helping to set up stalls at open days and county shows and helping the fundraising team.’
Thank you both for your dedication to the RNLI.
