At 11.58 am on Wednesday 27 March 2024 the volunteer crew members of the Beaumaris lifeboat received a page from the U.K. Coastguard Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre as Holyhead relating to a yacht aground near Min-Y-Don on the Menai Straits.

The Beaumaris Atlantic 85 inshore lifeboat Annette Mary Liddington with her volunteer crew launched at 12.10 pm and proceeded towards the location given for the casualty vessel.

Once at the scene it became apparent that the 42-foot keel yacht was well aground and would have to wait for an incoming tide to re-float. The three crew aboard confirmed no one had been injured and no obvious damage occasioned to the vessel.

A lifeboat volunteer boarded the craft and established that the crew aboard the vessel had all the necessary equipment and experience to re-float the boat on the incoming tide. They decided to remain aboard thus with the agreement of the coastguard the lifeboat was released to return to her station. Whilst the yacht waited for the tide to re-float her.

The lifeboat returned to her station at Beaumaris arriving a 1.00 pm to be refuelled and cleaned in readiness for her next launch.

A RNLI spokesman said: ‘The boat owner did the correct thing in alerting the Coastguard to their predicament. This meant our volunteer lifeboat crew were able to reach the casualty, assess the situation and take the best course of action.’
