Finlay and his mum, Heather, will be walking 1-mile a day for Kyle RNLI.

The 3-year-old was inspired to take on the Mayday challenge by his dad, Andrew MacDonald, who has been on the volunteer crew at Kyle of Lochalsh RNLI since 2012.

The fundraising duo will be aiming to walk 1-mile a day in and around the Kyle area to raise money for their local lifeboat station. Finlay and Heather have already raised over £200 of their £400 target for Kyle RNLI.

Andrew MacDonald, Volunteer Helm at Kyle of Lochalsh RNLI says: ‘Finlay is at the stage where he wants to be like me, so he is saying he wants to be on the crew once he is ‘big enough’ as he puts it!

‘As the RNLI was launching the Mayday campaign we thought about the Mayday Mile challenge and he said he wanted to do it. I'm not sure he knows what he's let himself in for, but he is determined he wants to do it, and he has my stubborn streak so I'm sure he'll manage it! We are just hoping for decent weather throughout May!’

In 2023, RNLI lifeboats in Scotland launched 1,251 times, saving 15 lives. The charity is now putting out its own Mayday call as it faces yet another busy year ahead.
