A total of 48 golfers took part in the event which raised £1075 for the lifesaving charity. They enjoyed excellent weather for their round on the picturesque Lyme Regis course with its stunning views over Lyme Bay. Competitors also enjoyed refreshments at the ‘halfway house’ served by members of the lifeboat crew and, at the end of play, a barbecue meal on the club’s patio.

Winners of the 3-ball format golf competition were brothers Matt and Mike Searle together with Paul Nichols.

Lyme Regis Golf Club’s Business Development and Marketing committee member Shane Stone said, ‘We are very proud to hold an open event in aid of the RNLI in this its 200th anniversary year. It has been 20 years since we last held such an event and we hope to repeat it again next year. The fantastic weather ensured everyone had a great day on the course.’

After presenting competition prizes volunteer lifeboat Helm Jon Broome, the RNLI’s event organiser, thanked all who had made the competition possible. He said, ‘We are very grateful to Lyme Regis Golf Club for hosting this open event which we hope will become a regular feature in the calendar. We would also like to thank Tesco and Lyme Bay butchers for their donation of provisions for the ‘halfway house’, and for the committees of Dorset, Bridport, Honiton, Cricket St Thomas and Axe Cliff golf clubs for their generous donation of raffle prizes.’

Today’s golf competition is just one of a series of events being organised by Lyme Regis RNLI to celebrate and commemorate the charity’s 200 years of saving lives at sea. The next big event is Lifeboat Week which will be held between 27 July and 3 August 2024.
