Wells RNLI rescues 5 people

The five walkers had been cut off by the incoming tide. The volunteer crew rescued the group and ferried them to the safety of the shore, and four more people had managed to wade back to safety themselves.

The RNLI volunteer crew did a thorough check of the area before they headed back to the boathouse, where they refuelled and cleaned the Lifeboat.

The weather was warm and the beach busy on the bank holiday Sunday. Mandy Humphreys, the water safety advisor for Wells RNLI had put posters around the lifeboat station area, to warn beachgoers of the danger of high tide. A similar warning had been posted on the Wells RNLI social media.

Mandy said: 'You can help protect yourself and your family from getting into this dangerous situation, by getting back to the main part of the beach, dry sand/land at least four hours before the Wells bar high tide time. This time is displayed in a number of different locations at the entrance to Wells and Holkham beach or you can easily google Wells Bar High Tide time.'

Notes to Editors

Wells' D Class Inshore Lifeboat is called Peter Wilcox.
