On Saturday 4 May 2024 Newbiggin's volunteer team set out with a Mayday venture that had a variety of outcomes for the benefit of the station and the wider community.

The Mayday mile focussed on a walk along the bay to look over the beach and indeed included some training on essential local knowledge.

Around 30 walkers took part in the event, which included volunteers and members of the public, all of whom made a donation to take part and raise some vital funds. The walk, however, had an environmental theme as part of our local environmental responsibilities to look after the beach environment, with a successful beach clean along the entire frontage and promenade carried out.

Back in the boathouse the returning group received a warm welcome from the fundraising team who had laid on an array of refreshments with the shop open to complete the offer.

The event is likely to raise over £300 with further donations still to come in. We are grateful to all of the support we received and to Newbiggin Town Council that provided all of the litter picking equipment and bags.
